Comforting sounds of the kitchen
Cook dreams of bread and cake

Midsummer's day
And the hawthorn tree in the garden
Begins its autumn

Sun
Wind
Sand
One foot in front of the other
A walk along the beach

And now my 60th Birthday.
I smile
at the ordinariness of the morning.

When I blow out the candle
I am surprised
by the light of the night

Nothing added or taken away
Ordinary eternity
Nothing special

Standing on the gate between heaven and hell,
Jump!
But not when you are told.

Is it the same wind
that moves the pines
that moves the sycamores?
Who wants to know?

Wakeful night.
